Evangelia Vassalou, MD, PhD
Evangelia Vassalou was born in Heraklion, Crete in 1983. Dr. Vassalou graduated from the Medical School – University of Crete in 2007. She worked as research fellow in the Dpt of Thoracic Medicine (2007-2009) and Musculoskeletal (MSK) Radiology (2009-2011) at University Hospital of Heraklion. Dr. Vassalou completed the radiology residency at University Hospital of Heraklion (Board Certification: February 2016). She has completed a fellowship program on MSK Radiology at Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi/Milan, Italy (supervisor: Prof. Luca Sconfienza), granted by European School of Radiology/European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology (ESOR/ESSR Exchange Program for Fellowships, 2017). Dr. Vassalou completed her PhD thesis in 2017 (supervisor: Apostolos H. Karantanas).
Currently she works as a consultant radiologist at Sitia District Hospital and as a research associate at University Hospital of Heraklion. Her special interests include diagnostic/interventional MSK ultrasound procedures, MRI for the whole spectrum of MSK pathologies and imaging of thoracic disorders focused on interstitial lung disease.
She is the author/co-author of 20 Medline publications, 3 chapters in books and more than 50 announcements in national and international conferences. She has given 20 invited lectures in national and international conferences including the annual meeting of the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology. Four of her announcements have been awarded and one of her projects has been granted by the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology (ESSR Young Researchers Grant, 2015). She serves as a reviewer for 4 peer-reviewed medical journals.
Her teaching experience includes lectures on imaging of sports injuries in the Medical School of University of Crete and annual lectures in the postgraduate program of the department of medical imaging, University Hospital of Heraklion.
